SKOWHEGAN — Three people were seriously injured Saturday morning when two vehicles collided head-on near the Great Eddy in Skowhegan, according to officials.
At about 9 a.m., a pickup truck and SUV were traveling in opposite directions on Route 2 when one vehicle hydroplaned and crashed into the other, according to Chief Ronnie Rodriguez of the Skowhegan Fire Department.
“I don’t know how fast they were driving,” Rodriguez said, “but they were potentially driving faster than conditions would have warranted.”
The three occupants of the vehicles suffered serious injuries, Rodriguez said, and were taken by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan.
Rodriguez said he had no more details on the condition of those injured, but cautioned drivers to slow down in inclement weather and adjust their speed to the conditions of the road and the conditions of their vehicle.
Route 2 and other roads were closed for several hours Saturday morning while the Skowhegan Fire and Police departments and several ambulances responded to the crash.
Rodriguez said the roads were reopened by about noon.
