PALMYRA — A Hartland man was charged last week with criminal trespass and theft by unauthorized taking after authorities say he stole over $2,500 worth of power tools from a garage.
Guy Maloon, 34, broke into a garage on Warren Hill Road in Palmyra and stole the power tools on July 9, according to a news release Tuesday from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
The owner of the property noticed the tools were missing from the garage the following day, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell said.
When the owner reviewed footage from security cameras posted on the property, a man was seen carrying the tools out of the garage and into a silver van, Mitchell said.
Deputy Andrew Bowman led the investigation into the case and identified Maloon as a suspect. Maloon was located on Athens Road in Hartland on Friday and was arrested after being interviewed by authorities.
Mitchell said deputies later recovered the power tools in St. Albans.
Maloon posted bail later Friday and was released from the Somerset County Jail on the condition that he not contact the victim nor return to the property in Palmyra. He has a court appearance in Skowhegan scheduled for Sept. 6.
