LEWISTON — Livermore Falls’ town treasurer denied drunken driving and other related charges through her attorney Wednesday in 8th District Court.

Rebecca E. Harmatys, 46, of Livermore was arrested in April on a charge of operating under the influence of alcohol and refusing to submit to arrest or detention, each a misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

She also was charged with failing to notify of a motor vehicle accident, a misdemeanor that carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Harmatys had been released on cash bail.

Those charges were later dismissed because the arresting officer was unavailable to appear in court.

Prosecutors recently refiled the same charges against Hamatys.

She was issued a summons on the three misdemeanors but, because she wasn’t arrested, there was no bail required.

Harmatys was scheduled for arraignment Wednesday in 8th District Court, but her attorney, Thomas Carey, filed a letter of appearance with the court and entered her not guilty pleas on all counts.

According to a police report, Harmatys was arrested after allegedly striking a sign on Gibbs Mill Road before driving home on April 1.

A witness took down the license plate number and called police after the crash was reported, authorities said.

The 2018 Toyota struck a school zone advisory sign near the corner of Robinson Road, he said. Spruce Mountain Primary School is on that road.

Androscoggin County deputies went to Harmatys’ home on Haynorville Road, which is off Gibbs Mill Road, to investigate shortly after the crash occurred.

There was damage to the front of the vehicle, which is owned by Robert Harmatys, according to investigators.

Deputies determined Rebecca Harmatys was the driver of the vehicle. She was visibly impaired, according to the report.

During the investigation, Harmatys became uncooperative, was arrested and taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
