TURNER — The Select Board on Monday approved plans to repave the Boofy Quimby parking lot with enough space for 97 vehicles.

The project will be put out to bid, and officials hope to have it done by the end of September.

In another money matter, the board approved spending $500 more than the $125,000 budgeted for a new compact excavator. The only models available for purchase before September were Komatsus.

Town Manager Kurt Schaub advised members that the Maine Music Awards 2023 concert will not be held at the former Twitchell Airport this fall, according to his information from the property owner. It was first scheduled for Labor Day weekend, then rescheduled for early October.

At a previous meeting, town officials expressed concerns about an event that could potentially draw hundreds or thousands of people. They thought it would require a permit under the state’s mass gathering ordinance. Municipal officers were considering drafting a mass gathering ordinance as an added protection for the town.

The website for the concert no longer states a venue for the show. It appears that tickets are still available for sale.

Event organizer Wayne Koss did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
