WALES — Delia Gosselin scored the go-ahead goal late in the first half as Oak Hill opened the girls soccer season with a 2-1 win over Spruce Mountain on Thursday.

Adalia Scarborough opened the scoring to put the Phoenix up 1-0. An own goal with nine minutes to play in the first half even the score, and then Gosselin netted the tiebreaker four minutes before halftime.

Raiders goalie MacKenzie Vatasso made eight saves, while Spruce Mountain’s Tyoaka Hodgkin stopped six shots.

BUCKFIELD 5, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 1: After falling behind, the Bucks tallied five consecutive goals to earn a road win over the Falcons in both teams’ season openers in Rumford.

Ali Mazza scored off an assist by Kara Jasud to give Mountain Valley a 1-0 lead with 26 minutes remaining in the game.

Buckfield bounced back. Brittany Carrier scored two goals and Chloee Bennett, Addy Smith and Alyssa Breton each contributed one. Bennett and Cora Brewster had one assist each.

Bucks goalie Kianna Finnagan made five saves and Mountain Valley’s Kloee Pelletier stopped six shots.

CARRABEC 8, DIRIGO 0: Anna Canalas and Lia Price scored two goals each as the Cobras took down the Cougars in Dixfield.

Karen Baker, Molly Hay and Macy Plourde also scored for Carrabec (1-0). The Cobras’ other tally came via an own goal.

Lauretta Woodhead made 10 saves for Dirigo (0-1).

FREEPORT 3, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Halle York, Claire Nadeau, Luciana Bourgeois scored, and Amanda Panciocco needed just one save for the Falcons against the Patriots in Gray.

Abby Joyce stopped five shots for the Patriots.

MARANACOOK 8, MT. ABRAM 0: Natalie Mohlar had three goals and two assists as the Black Bears (1-0) won their season opener at Readfield.

Phoebe Bell added two goals for Maranacook, while Hope Webb added a goal and an assist.

Evelyn Stevenson and Hadley Farley each had a goal.

LAKE REGION 8, POLAND 1: Kayli Goodwin and Abigail Lavoie paced the Lakers past the Knights in Poland.

Goodwin netted three goal and Lavoie contributed two. Margo Tremblay and Marissa Harlow also scored. Goalie Jordan Blandon stopped six shots.

Arianna Gammon scored Poland’s goal, and Jill Barnes made seven saves.

FIELD HOCKEY
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 5, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 0: Olivia Mastine and Aubrey Kachnovich led the charge as the Phoenix (1-0) opened the season with a shutout win over the Falcons (0-1) in Rumford.

Mastine scored four goals, while Kachnovich caged one goal and assisted on two of Mastine’s scores. Avery Bessey also recorded an assist. Mallory Clark and Kyleigh Marcotte combined to stop two shots for Spruce Mountain.

Mountain Valley goalie Brooke Brown made 22 saves.

LISBON 2, TELSTAR 0: Riley Hoyle scored both goals for the Greyhounds in their season-opening win over the Rebels in Bethel.

Hoyle scored once in each half. Her goals were set up by Melanie Simmons and Alivia Saunders.

The game featured a lot of back-and-forth midfield play, with both teams having breakaways. Lisbon goalie Sophia Cote stopped two shots to earn the shutout out, and Telstar’s Lindsy Stephenson made 11 saves.

WINTHROP/MONMOUTH/MARANACOOK 2, HALL-DALE 0: The Ramblers took down the Bulldogs in Farmingdale.

Two freshman teamed up for the first goal, as Kylee Mansir set up Piper Clark for a goal. Madeline Wagner then made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal for Winthrop.

MESSALONSKEE 2, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Abby Stevens scored twice in the first half to send the Eagles to a season-opening win over the Red Eddies in Oakland.

Edward Little goalie Kasey Smith stopped three shots.

LEAVITT 2, LAWRENCE 0: A pair of second-half goals pushed the Hornets past the Bulldogs in Turner.

Freshman Ainsley Berry started the scoring with a diving goal in the third quarter, then deft passing from Emma Beedy to Maddie Morin led to a nice goal by Katie Sirois in the fourth quarter.

Leavitt goalie Emily Poland made five saves.

The Hornets were playing their first regular season game since the death of longtime coach Wanda Ward-MacLean in late June, and assistant coach Taylor Eels said that Ward-MacLean’s presence was “felt strongly on the field today.”

LEWISTON 4, BRUNSWICK 0: The Blue Devils opened their season with a shutout road victory over the Dragons in Brunswick.

Allison Lavallee led the way with a pair of goals for Lewiston. Reese Maynard opened the scoring and later set up a goal by Maddy Freeman. Siara Laliberte, Bella Dube and Gabriella Thomas also had assists.

Lewiston goalie Sarah Mack recorded the shutout with a nine-save effort. Brunswick goalie Ella Duchette stopped 14 shots.

MT. BLUE 6, BANGOR 0: Mikayla Wilcox’s three goals and strong performances by Katie Yeaton, Kara Daggett and Lily Huntley pace the Cougars to a season-opening win over the Rams in Bangor.

Daggett, Bree Griffin and Kali Judkins also scored goals. Huntley recorded two assists.

Bangor goalie Lydia Lynch made eight saves.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/NYA 9, WELLS 1: Emma Bowden’s big game paced the Patriots as they opened the season with a win over the Warriors in Gray.

Bowden scored four goals and assisted on four others. Kenley Nadeau also was prolific, tallying a pair of goals and a pair of assists, while Amelia Bowie added two goals and Greta Tod had one. Tod, Abbie Packard and Olivia Knudsen each had one assist.

BOYS SOCCER
MT. ABRAM 4, MARANACOOK 0: Morgan Thibodeau scored twice as the Roadrunners (1-0) earned the shutout in their season opener in Salem Township.

Bryce Wilcox had a goal and an assist for Mt. Abram, while Killian Pillsbury scored and Chase Ross added an assist. Goalkeepers Logan Dube and Trey Reed each made one save.

Sam St. Germain made four saves in goal for Maranacook (0-1)

GARDINER 3, LEAVITT 1: Zach Reed netted two goals and the Tigers (1-0) opened the season with a road win over the Hornets (0-1) in Turner.

Aiden Paradis also scored for Gardiner. Dillion Elliott and Alexx Roy each had an assist. Goal Connor Fairservice made two saves.

Logan Berube scored Leavitt’s goal, and Vanya Bezhenar stopped 14 shots in goal.

POLAND 5, LAKE REGION 0: Cohen Demuth notched three goals, and Zeno Marangon and William Wallingford also scored for the Knights against the Lakers in Naples.

Caleb Googins assisted on two goals for Poland, and Travis West, Talen Langevine and goalie Sam Paladino added an assist apiece. Paladino made four saves.
