Falls Prevention Awareness Week is set for Monday through Friday, Sept. 18-22, and the Maine Falls Prevention Coalition is partnering with the National Council on Aging throughout the month by offering accessible falls prevention programs, services, and learning opportunities throughout the state.

Falls remain a leading cause of injury for people aged 65 and older. Falls threaten older adults’ safety and independence and generate enormous economic and personal costs, according to a news release from Spectrum Generations (Healthy Living for ME).

But through practical lifestyle adjustments, evidence-based falls prevention programs, and clinical-community partnerships, the number of falls experienced by older adults can be substantially reduced.

To view and register for the upcoming events, visit healthylivingforme.org or call 800-620-6036. The first event is Monday, Sept. 4.

Healthy Living for ME also offers several evidence-based independent study packages to help individuals to increase knowledge and improve habits to lead stronger, healthier lives. Available packages include health and wellness, diabetes management, and pain management.

To request a free independent study package, email info@healthylivingforme.org or call 800-620-6036.
