An Oxford man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was driving on Route 114 in Naples collided head-on with a pickup truck, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened just after 4 p.m., when Silas Gordon, 22, was riding a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle northbound on Sebago Road and Benjamin Gammon, 28, of Limerick, was traveling southbound in a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, said Capt. Kerry Joyce.

“It appears Gordon crossed into the oncoming lane on his motorcycle,” Joyce said in a statement.

Gordon, who was wearing a helmet, received severe leg injuries and a head injury, Joyce said. He was transported by Lifeflight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where a spokesperson said he was being treated in the emergency department Wednesday night. Gammon was not injured in the crash.

High speed appears to have been a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation, Joyce said. Crash reconstruction specialists from the Gorham and Falmouth police departments assisted at the scene.
