TURNER — The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office shut down a section of Route 4 on Friday after an SUV and motorcycle collided in the area of North Shore Road at about 7:30 a.m.
Police said a 39-year-old Leeds man suffered serious injuries when the motorcycle he was riding swiped the front of an SUV driven by a 19-year-old from North Turner.
The names of the people involved were not released Friday afternoon. Police said a preliminary investigation shows that the SUV was traveling south when, on a curve, it crossed the centerline, striking the motorcycle as it was traveling north.

Several passing motorists, including a nurse and an EMS worker, were on scene almost immediately to render aid to the downed biker, according to Cpl. Randy Williams of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.
The 19-year-old was not injured in the wreck. The motorcyclist sustained serious injuries and was taken by LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
The roadway remained closed for about three hours as sheriff’s office investigators reconstructed the crash.
The Friday morning crash follows a fatal crash on Route 4 in Auburn the day before. In that collision, a motorcyclist from Turner was killed.
