BRUNSWICK — Maria Femia scored a pair of goals as Bates downed rival Bowdoin 3-1 in NESCAC field hockey action Saturday.

Femia opened the scoring in the first quarter with a goal assisted by St. Dom’s grad Anna Cote. Faith Jennings tied it for the Polar Bears (1-1, 0-1 NESCAC) in the second quarter.

Anna Lindeis gave the Bobcats (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) the lead back in the third quarter and Femia rounded out the scoring in the fourth. Kaili Jacobsen made eight saves in goal for the Bobcats.

UMF 2, MMA 1: Edward Little grads Mohamed Adow and Christian Beliveau teamed up for a goal as the Beavers (1-2-0) held off the Mariners (1-1-0) in Farmington.

Adow, a freshman, scored off an assist from Beliveau, a senior, to put University of Maine at Farmington ahead 1-0 just over 19 minutes into the game. Zach Chaisson made it 2-0 in the 55th minute, with an assist from Brady Stockwell.

Gabriel Toledo converted a penalty kick just over two minutes later to put Maine Maritime Academy on the board.

Jack Wormald made three saves for UMaine-Farmington, and Reagan Moynihan had seven for the Mariners.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
MMA 2, UMF 1: Bethany Ives’ goal in the 74th minute was the difference in the Mariners’ (3-0-1) win over the Beavers (1-3-0) in Castine.

Kirra Magana gave Maine Maritime Academy the initial lead with a goal 14:50 into the game, and that 1-0 advantage stuck until halftime. Monmouth grad Audrey Fletcher tied the game for UMaine-Farmington off an assist from Emily Boyle in the 48th minute.

Makayo Brown assisted on Ives’ game-winning goal.

Oak Hill grad Paige Gonya made four saves in goal for UMF, while Isa Thesing stopped three shots for MMA.

EMERSON 2, BATES 1: All three goals were scored in the span of six minutes in the second half as the Lions (1-3-0) nudged past the Bobcats (0-1-1) in Lewiston.

Alianna West-Rodriguez scored the game’s first goal 74:55 into the contest to put Emerson on top, and Charlotte Jones tied it for Bates at the 77:11 mark. Jessica Saavedra then put the Lions back ahead with just under 10 minutes left.

Ruby Reimann made three saves in the first half for Bates, and Samantha Bunar patrolled the goal in the second half. Amara Schaub stopped seven shots in net for Emerson.
