JAY — The Select Board voted unanimously Monday to spend up to $6,000 for a new hot-water pressure washer, extra nozzles, wands and hose for the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The money will come from a joint sewer reserve account, which has about $80,000 in it. Livermore Falls selectmen approved the expenditure Sept. 5.

The base price quoted for a washer is $5,580, which includes the pressure washer integrated onto a four-wheel cart, 100 feet of hose, trigger gun with a 48-inch wand, three spray nozzles, detergent feed system and hose reel. The additional money would pay for more nozzles, wands and hose.

Jay sends all its raw sewage to the plant, which is owned by Livermore Falls and both towns share the cost of operation and maintenance.

In other business, the board also voted to authorize Chairman Terry Bergeron to sign a letter to apply for a sudden and severe loss of valuation as of April 1 for the 2024-25 from the state.

It is the fifth time the town will seek a reduction in value since 2013 because of the Androscoggin Mill downsizing and then closing. The mill owned by Pixelle Specialty Solutions of Pennsylvania permanently closed March 9.

Also on Monday, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere announced a section of state Route 133 has reopened. It had been closed since damage from heavy rains and flash flooding June 29. Some areas were being paved Monday.
