EAST LIVERMORE – Calvin A. Smith, 76, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Calvin was born on Feb. 4, 1947, the son of the late Clinton and Mary (Schmitt) Smith.
Calvin had many jobs in his life, but most will remember him for delivering their newspaper in the wee hours of the morning. He was also known for his butchering with Leroy and later with Jake. Towards the end of his working years, Calvin enjoyed working with Jurgen and Tom at Kent’s Hill school in the kitchen.
There was never a quick trip anywhere with Calvin, he would start a conversation with a stranger just as quickly as he would a friend. He was always the storyteller, and he definitely perfected this art. He brought an energy to the room that can never be duplicated. He will be missed but never forgotten by the people that had the pleasure of knowing him. As his brother Kenny said, “he was a legend”.
His grandsons fondly remember their time spent most Saturday mornings eating breakfast at Chummy’s in Lisbon. Papa cherished the time he shared with his grandchildren.
Calvin is survived by ex-wife, Rhonda; and their two sons, Jason and Micah; his grandchildren, Sean, Scott, Seth, Wyatt, Raelynn, Declan and Emry.
He was predeceased by his parents; his daughter, Katrina; and his sister, Debra.
LOVE YOU Dad, Brother, Papa, and dear friend. We be praying to the LORD for you.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m., at the Committal Shelter at Old Maine Veterans Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Ave., Augusta, with military honors.
