The Twin City Thunder began their fifth season in the USPHL National Collegiate Development Conference on a sour note.

The Rockets Hockey Club defeated the Thunder 5-1 as part of the Junior Bruins Shootout at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Saturday afternoon.

Cam Bergeman had two goals in the win for Rockets HC.

Sam Blantone opened the scoring nearly seven minutes into the first period for Rockets Hockey Club.

Caden Olenczak stretched Rockets HC’s lead to 2-0 by finishing off a play Blantone set up midway through the opening period.

Returning forward Edvin Robertsson got the Thunder on the board late in the first period. Former Maine Nordiques Academy defenseman Leo Mantenuto recorded an assist on the goal.

Aidan Ryan scored a power-play goal about five minutes into the second period, giving the Rockets a 3-1 lead.

The Rockets were 1 for 4 on the man-advantage and the Thunder were 0 for 4.

Bergeman scored a shorthanded goal later in the second period by beating Thunder goalie Evan Plunkett (23 saves) for a 4-1 advantage.

Bergeman tallied his second of the afternoon midway through the third period to cap the scoring.

Jakob Hanlon made 17 saves in the win.

The Thunder return to action Sunday night in Marlborough when they play the Mercer Chiefs at 6:10 p.m.
