RUMFORD – Carl “Butch” Ellis, Jr. died Saturday Sept. 30, 2023, at the Hospice House in Auburn. He was a resident of South Rumford Road in Rumford.
Butch was born in Rumford, on Oct. 14, 1946, the son of Carl and Elizabeth (Ciccarelli) Ellis, Sr. He was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford. He served in the U.S. Navy onboard the Herbert J. Thomas Destroyer during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1967. Butch served as Deputy Chief for the Rumford Fire Department until his retirement.
Butch loved aviation and made his own radio-controlled planes. He also detailed and painted cars and motorcycles; he was also an accomplished artist, woodworker and he loved to bake.
Butch was married in Mexico on Dec. 31, 1993, to Sonjia Durgin who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include daughters, Diane Ellis of Sibley Pond, and Christine Reynolds of Calif., stepdaughter Dawn Drapeau-Ilan and husband Gadi of Austin, Texas, grandchildren, Hannah and Audrey Ilan, and Courtney Reynolds and a sister Betty Svec and husband Randy of Willoughby Hills, Ohio.
