For the second time in a month, Maine is in the cone for a tropical system. Luckily Philippe is much weaker than Lee, heavy rain and some breezy winds are the only impacts. WGME graphic

A very foggy start on Thursday is giving way to a much cooler afternoon than what we’ve seen so far this week in Maine.

Clouds stick around through the end of the work week, with the remnants of Tropical Storm Phillipe bringing widespread heavy rain by Saturday.

Still, there should be some sun, inland towns will climb into the mid-70s with highs in the 60s near the coast.

Friday will be overcast in Maine, along with cooler weather.

Temps will still be mild in the upper 60s.

A sprinkle or shower is possible on Friday afternoon.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Philippe reach Maine on Saturday, and it gets absorbed into a fall cold front.

This will enhance rainfall across the state, several inches likely Saturday.

Rain will begin Saturday morning, picking up in intensity by the afternoon.

A total washout Saturday with highs in the mid-60s, good day for indoor plans.

Heavy rain looks likely, especially in Midcoast and Down East Maine.

Winds will also be breezy at times, but Philippe is no Lee. Winds will likely not be strong enough for power issues. However, they will likely knock a lot of the fall leaves off the trees in areas nearing peak color.

Things will dry out by Sunday as cooler, drier air moves into the state. A few morning showers will give way to afternoon sun. Highs will be in the mid-60s.

Even cooler weather is on the way to start next week. Highs will be in the 50s, with a few scattered showers on Monday and Tuesday. Things look to turn drier by the middle of the week with typical October temps continuing.
