100 Years Ago: 1923

North Auburn Grange held its annual fair yesterday. Profits from the fancy work, vegetables, etc., were very satisfactory. There was an excellent vegetable exhibit. In the evening, the drama “Safety First ” was presented, followed by dancing. Austin’s Orchestra played throughout the afternoon. Outside, the horse pulling was a center of much interest.

50 Years Ago: 1973

Bernard Chapman and his models from Bernie’s Fashions at Portland will present a show for members of the Central Maine General Hospital Women’s Hospital Association at its meeting Wednesday. Mr. Chapman will serve as commentator for the show.

25 Years Ago: 1998

“A Musical Painting Comes to Life,” a recital of music related to Edgar Degas’ painting “The Orchestra of the Opera,” will be performed by bassoonist David DeBolt and planist Timothy Wallace at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall, Bates College. The program includes “Medea” by Luigi Cherubini, “Cavatina” by Gioacchino Rossini and “Concerto in B-flat Major, KV. 191” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The public is invited to attend free of charge.
