FARMINGTON — Donations of cookies and wreath making supplies are being asked for by the 3C Society.
The 3C Society [caring, compassion, and community] has undertaken many community projects since its inception. The latest is helping with fundraising efforts at Washburn-Norlands Living History Center in Livermore.
“The 3C Society is heading up the Norlands’ Christmas event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9,” Arleen Maselli said in a phone interview Tuesday, Oct. 10. “Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, there will be carriage rides and a cookie walk. For a small fee, people will get a bag and fill it with cookies. We are helping them raise money.”
Maselli said wreaths and kissing balls will also be sold, with many made by LEAP staff and clients. They will be making them sometime between the end of November and the first week of December, she noted.
Children will be able to decorate a Christmas tree, there may be gingerbread cookies for kids to decorate if enough are donated, Maselli noted.
“We have been very busy with Norlands this year,” she stated. “We helped them some throughout the summer.”
Later Tuesday, Amanda Beane said she got interested in the Norlands after attending a civil war reenactment with her son at the center.
“Seeing my son get excited about history made me realize how important places like the Norlands are,” she stated. “Living history museums breath life into history in a way books and movies cannot. When I heard the Norlands was at risk of closing I knew I needed to take action.”
Beane and her son have volunteered at several events since including the maple breakfast and Livermore Falls History Night. “Now we are excited to be a part of the planning process for Christmas at the Norlands,” she said. “We are hoping to bring community members of all ages together for a fun time while helping uplift the Norlands with community support.”
Beane is especially excited that Leap has offered to assist with the wreaths. “I think that will be so much fun,” she exclaimed. “I plan to be there to help and will learn how to make a wreath. Fun to learn something new and be a part of something meaningful.”
Founding members of 3C Society, Maselli and Beane’s first undertaking was an annual free Christmas meal, which continued for seven years. The first five were sit down and the latter two take out due to COVID-19.
Last year a meal wasn’t held as time and effort were put into an Autumn Ball for those with special needs. Attending the red carpet affair were 85 guests and volunteers.
Maselli said 3C Society won’t be providing the Christmas day meal this year, is looking for someone else to take it on. “Everyone wants to spend time with their family that day,” she noted.
