The University of Maine football team scored 21 points in the second half but couldn’t complete the comeback and lost to Campbell, 34-28, on Saturday in Buies Creek, North Carolina.
Campbell (4-3, 3-2 Coastal Athletic Association) scored 21 points in the second quarter and built a 28-7 lead when Chris McKay scored on a 5-yard run with 5:07 left in the first half.
Derek Robertson threw a pair of touchdown passes to Rohan Jones in the fourth quarter, the second with 6:12 left, to pull the Black Bears (2-6, 1-4) within six. Maine had the ball on its own 14 with 2:51 remaining, but Robertson threw an interception and Campbell held on.
Robertson completed 35 of 51 passes for 490 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Joe Gillette caught six passes for 135 yards, while Jamie Lamson had five catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns.
Lamagea McDowell rushed 26 times for 114 yards and two touchdowns for Campbell. Hajj-Malik Williams completed 26 of 33 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 19, CURRY 13: Damien Jones scored on a 1-yard run three seconds into the fourth quarter and the Nor’easters (6-1, 2-0 CCC) beat the Colonels (2-5, 0-2) in Milton, Massachusetts.
Jones also caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jarrett Henault in the first quarter. Dylan Ibbitson recovered a blocked punt and returned it 50 yards late in the first to give UNE a 13-0 lead.
Trevor Swanbeck kicked two field goals and Edison Thompson caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Michael Moriarty for Curry.
WESLEYAN 35, BOWDOIN 30: The Polar Bears (3-2) scored 23 points in the fourth quarter but couldn’t complete the comeback and lost to the Cardinals (3-2) in Middletown, Connecticut.
Andrew Boel completed 31 of 51 passes for 431 yards and four touchdowns for Bowdoin. Colton Fahey had eight catches for 144 yards, while Brendan King caught seven passes for 90 yards and three touchdowns.
Niko Candido passed for 216 yards and two touchdowns for Wesleyan, which scored 21 points in the second quarter and 14 in the third to storm to a 35-7 lead.
HAMILTON 17, COLBY 6: Thomas Keeling passed for 260 yards and Christos Tzoumakas kicked two field goals, but the Mules (3-3) lost to the Continentals (1-5) in Waterville.
Tzoumakas kicked a 39-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 26-yard field goal in the third.
Luke Kurzum had a 34-yard touchdown reception and a 13-yard touchdown run for Hamilton. Ben Waterman kicked a 33-yard field goal.
MIDDLEBURY 48, BATES 7: Cole Kennon passed for 353 yards and four touchdowns as the Panthers (4-1) cruised past the Bobcats (0-5) in Middlebury, Vermont.
Colton Bosselait threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Steven Guerrette for Bates.
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 10, HUSSON 9: Conrad Swanson completed a 9-yard touchdown pass to De’Andrew Harris and Andrew Havens kicked the extra point with 1:05 remaining, lifting the Golden Bears (4-3) past the Eagles (5-2) in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Husson took the lead just over a minute earlier on a 2-yard touchdown run by Elijah Garnett, but Cason Markevich missed the point after. Markevich kicked a 43-yard field goal earlier in the fourth after Havens kicked a 33-yard field goal in the first.
(3) OHIO STATE 20, (7) PENN STATE 12: All-American Marvin Harrison made all the difference for the Buckeyes (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) in a pivotal Big Ten match-up, making 11 catches for 162 yards and late touchdown in a win over the Nittany Lions (6-1, 3-1) in Columbus, Ohio.
The Buckeyes’ defense smothered Drew Allar and the Nittany Lions, extending Ohio State’s winning streak in the series to seven games.
(6) OKLAHOMA 31, UCF 29: Dillon Gabriel threw three touchdown passes against his former team, Oklahoma stopped a two-point attempt in the closing minutes and the No. 6 Sooners (7-0, 4-0 Big 12) held on to beat the Knights (3-4, 0-4) in Norman, Oklahoma.
Gabriel, who transferred before the 2022 season, connected on 25 of 38 passes for 253 yards.
(8) TEXAS 31, HOUSTON 24: CJ Baxter rushed 16 yards for a touchdown with 5½ minutes left in the fourth quarter, and the Longhorns (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) stopped the Cougars (3-4, 1-3) on 4th-and-1 in the final minute on the way to a win in Houston.
Jonathon Brooks rushed for 99 yards and Xavier Worthy had 92 receiving yards and a touchdown for Texas.
(11) ALABAMA 34, (17) TENNESSEE 20: Jalen Milroe passed for two touchdowns, Jihaad Campbell returned a fumble for a score in the fourth quarter and the Crimson Tide (7-1, 5-0 SEC) uncorked 27 straight second-half points in rallying for a win over the Volunteers (5-2, 2-2) in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
With its national title hopes on the brink, Alabama turned in its most dominant half of the season. And it came against a border rival who had helped end ‘Bama’s championship aspirations a year ago.
(22) AIR FORCE 17, NAVY 6: Zac Larrier threw a 94-yard touchdown to Dane Kinamon – the longest pass in Air Force history – and the Falcons (7-0) shut down the Midshipmen (3-4) in Annapolis, Maryland.
BOSTON COLLEGE 38, GEORGIA TECH 23: Thomas Castellanos ran for 128 yards and two touchdowns, including a 43-yard score on a fourth-down scamper in the fourth quarter, and the resurgent Eagles (4-3, 2-2 ACC) beat the Yellow Jackets (3-4, 2-2) in Atlanta.
