Muriel E. Ouellette

LEWISTON – Muriel E. Ouellette passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on Nov. 9, 2023.

She was born on July 9, 1934, to Desire St. Pierre and Marie-Laure (Larochelle) St. Pierre. Muriel was educated in Lewiston schools.

She married Maurice Laliberte Sept. 6, 1954, together they raised three daughters. Muriel was housekeeper for Holy Family Parish, and after the death of her husband she worked part time in a gift shop while going to school to be a certified nursing aid.

On Sept. 8, 1984 she married Arthur E. Ouellette Jr., together they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and spending many winters in Florida. They were also very active in the Knights of Columbus Council 106.

Muriel had a devotion to the Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord. She was often asked by her family to light a candle in front of her statue of Mary for a special request. Muriel loved the ocean she once told her daughters “That when the waves came crashing into the shore and return to the open sea was like a cleansing of your soul”.

Muriel is survived by her daughters Denise Cote, Suzanne and Joline Laliberte, her stepchildren Diane (Gary) Clark, Louis (Laurie) Ouellette, Rene (Phyllis) Ouellette and Denise Bowden; her brother, Roger (Rachel) St. Pierrel; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild and one on the way.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands Maurice Laliberte and Arthur E. Ouellette Jr.; sisters Lorraine, and Rita (Gerry) Morin, a brother, Marcel (Monique) St. Pierre; a son-in-law, Daniel Cote; and great-granddaughter, Sierra Pote.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clover Living Senior for taking such wonderful care of our mother.

The family invites you to a time of visitation on Wednesday Nov. 15 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Fortin Group Lewiston, 70 Horton St. Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus St., Lewiston, immediately followed by a committal service at St. Peters Cemetery, Deer Road, Lewiston.
