Philip E. Ring

LEWISTON – Philip E. Ring ascended to his eternal resting place on Nov. 9, 2023. He was born in Portland Maine on Oct. 31, 1943, to Clifford and Musetta Ring (Chaplin). He graduated from New Gloucester High School in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Army in March of 1967. Company B First Battalion Third Brigade.

He met the love of his life Donna Thurlow at Mortons Dance Hall in Naples Maine and they were married on Sept. 30, 1972, and had two children. Philip worked for many years at Crosby Laughlin in Portland as a steelworker, and later at Bath Iron Works in Bath where he was a member of the IAM local S6 union. He was no stranger to hard work and long days as he and his wife also owned Rings Quick Stop in Auburn for many years. Philip retired from BIW in 2009 to lovingly care for his ailing wife of 43 years. She peacefully passed away in 2015 while holding his hand.

Phil enjoyed playing his steel guitar throughout the years and was in many different bands. Music was a big part of he and his wife’s early years. He was also an avid horseshoe player and a proud member of the Lisbon Left Handed Club where he had a reputation as being one of the best. It’s been said “ if you were lucky enough to draw him as a partner you were happy because you knew you would win”.

His patience and devotion to those who knew him was unwavering. A humble man whose smile and genuine kindness could light up a room. He will be greatly missed but is now reunited with his beautiful wife Donna.

He is predeceased by his wife Donna Ring, parents Clifford and Musetta Ring, siblings Geraldine Davis of Auburn, Frank Ring of Standish, Lorraine Bragdon of Lewiston, and Carol Munroe of Auburn.

He is survived by his daughter Pamela Winslow and significant other Terry Witham of Mechanic Falls; Daughter Annette Woodbury of Mount Vernon; A very special brother in law Darren Strout and girlfriend Robanna Aybar of Auburn; brother Larry Ring and wife Joey of Auburn; sister Mrs. Beverly Manalus and husband William of Las Vegas.

Granddaughter Robyn Montoya and husband Juan Montoya of Saco; Grandson Ryan Woodbury and wife Hanna Woodbury of Rome; grandson Cody Kalinka of New Gloucester; granddaughter Alexis Winslow of Mechanic Falls; great grandsons Owen Surque and Marco Montoya of Saco, great granddaughters Rosemary and Frances Woodbury of Rome. Many nieces and nephews

Graveside burial will be held November 25, at 12:30 p.m., Highland Cemetery, Megquier Hill Road Poland. with a celebration of life to follow 2-5 p.m., at American Legion Post 150 in Mechanic Falls.
