Abraham Saphier

PERU – Abraham Saphier, 98, passed away peacefully at home, Dec. 3, 2023, with his loving wife and family by his side.

Born in Bronx, N.Y. he was the son of Jacob and Rebecca (Lazarowitz) Saphier. Abe served in the U.S. Army as an interpreter. He attended graduate school at NYU school of music and art and graduated from Parsons School of Design. After graduation Abe started his own company Saphier Decorators and made curtains for many renown people in New York. He taught English, math, and Hebrew, he worked at the world’s fair, and for the postal service, he also worked in sales and received an award for being a top salesperson. He received an award for carving a wooden duck with all its intricate details, he laid floors, and the list goes on.

Abe was very active in life. He was a member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge, Kora Shrine, Scottish Rite, Dixfield Historical Society, and the American Legion. Abe was a perfectionist with many talents and it was always interesting to sit with him and talk about his life’s adventures.

Abraham married his true love and soulmate, Anna Tamburri, on March 15, 1952. Together they built a wonderful life and family. He was a very wise, gentle soul and he would help anyone in need and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Anna; a son, David and wife Lisa of Mexico, a daughter, Joann and husband Joel of Long Island, N.Y.; grandchildren, Craig Anders and wife Kim, Jennifer Whitman and husband Tristan, Laura Saphier and Joshua Saphier; great-grandchildren, Grafton, Sawyer and Ellena Whitman.

Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, followed by a Masonic Service. Friends and family are invited to call prior to the funeral from 12 to 2 p.m. at Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford, ME 04276.
