The Twin City Thunder just fell short Friday night.
The Junior Bruins defeated the Thunder 2-1 in a USPHL NCDC New England division contest at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn.
Bruins goalie Garret Simpson stopped 42 shots, while his counterpart Stefan Carney made 39 saves for the Thunder (6-12-2, 14 points).
The puck didn’t find the back of the net for either team until the second period.
Filip Kupa scored the first goal to give the Jr. Bruins — who are based in Marlborough, Massachusetts — a 1-0 lead nearly three minutes into the stanza. Colin Weinwich and Jackson Delleo recorded assists.
Thunder forward James Tatro evened the game on a power play midway through the second period. Tyler Kelly and Roman Wainwright helped set up the goal.
Jack Cotter scored the game-winning tally a few minutes later for the Bruins (10-10-1, 21 points).
The Thunder were sent to the penalty box three times. That included killing off a Wyatt McAvoy five-minute major for cross-checking at the beginning of the frame.
The Thunder were 1 of 4 on the man advantage, and the Jr. Bruins were 0 of 3.
The teams face off again tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at Norway Savings Bank Arena.
