A powerful storm arrives Sunday after a weekend of warming temperatures. The storm that is expected to continue into Monday, could create damaging winds and the threat of power outages.
After another very cold morning, temperatures begin to moderate Friday. Highs will reach the upper 30s to around 40 to end the work week with sunny skies.
Saturday will be even milder. Highs will reach the lower to middle 40s with mostly cloudy skies.
Sunday also looks quiet for the daytime hours. We’ll see cloudy skies through the day with highs in the upper 40s to near 50 at the coast. Rain arrives late in the afternoon and into the evening.
A potent storm system moves in late Sunday night. A period of heavy rain and powerful winds will impact Maine late Sunday night and early Monday. The worst conditions will likely be between 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday.
Winds look to be the biggest threat with this storm. Wind gusts above 50 mph are possible up and down the coast, with Midcoast and Down East Maine seeing even stronger gusts.
Power outages look likely, they may be widespread in some areas. The Monday morning commute will likely be quite messy.
Flooding doesn’t look to be a major threat, but widespread heavy rainfall of 2-4 inches in just a few hours could lead to minor flooding, especially in areas that still have a good amount of snow on the ground.
Rain will turn to snow in the mountains Monday morning, a few inches will be possible especially in the higher elevations. Rain and mountain snow wrap up late Monday morning with some sun likely returning for the afternoon.
