MEXICO — Med-Care Ambulance has purchased “Car 2” with grant funding awarded to its community paramedicine program.
The ambulance service received an award of $100,000 to start paramedicine care.
Car 2 is an equipped advanced life support fly car that carries paramedic level medications, a cardiac monitor/defibrillator and a host of other medical supplies.
Its primary role is to equip the ambulance crew with the means to provide community paramedicine services, which is a program where they see patients in their homes to provide access to more primary care services. This includes drawing blood for lab work, helping manage medication, taking vital signs and evaluating homes for safety risks, among other things.
The community paramedicine program is relatively new, but is growing to help support the needs of residents in the Med-Care coverage area.
Med-Care Ambulance Service is the primary emergency medical services agency for a majority of Oxford County, providing emergency medical response to the towns of Andover, Byron, Canton, Dixfield, Hanover, Mexico, Newry, Peru, Roxbury and Rumford, as well as the town of Carthage in Franklin County.
