Leavitt senior Noah Carpenter was announced as a member of the University of Maine football team’s early signing class on Wednesday.

“Noah is a competitor, leader, and a guy who finds a way to win! We are thrilled to welcome him to the Maine football family!” said a quote by Black Bears coach Jordan Stevens that was posted on the UMaine football team’s social media platforms.

Carpenter is one of 14 on the list of players joining the Black Bears in 2024 — and the only one from Maine. His position is listed as ATH, or athlete, which typically signifies a versatile player who can play multiple positions — and either the team plans to use him the player in multiple positions or they haven’t yet decided where he’ll excel most or where the team need him the most.

Carpenter played quarterback, safety, punter and kicker in high school, and excelled at all four positions while playing a major role in the Hornets’ consecutive perfect seasons and Class C state titles.

In his three-year high school career, Carpenter led Leavitt to a 29-1 record. He completed 243 passes for 4,885 yards and 54 touchdowns, and ran for 3,130 yards and 54 TDs. He made all five of his field goal attempts and went 53 for 61 on PATs. Defensively, he made 242 tackles, eight interceptions, forced six fumbles and recovered six.

Carpenter is a two-time Sun Journal Football Player of the Year. Earlier this week he was named the MaxPreps Maine Football Player of the Year, and last week was announced as a Fitzpatrick Trophy finalist. Last year, he was Maine’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
