Eva Dudley Leavitt

TURNER – Eva Dudley Leavitt, 75, a resident of Turner, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at her home with her family by her side. She was born Oct. 24, 1948, in Lewiston, the daughter of Perien A. Dudley and Laura Louise (Libby) Giroux. She was a 1967 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner. On June 10, 1989, in North Turner, she married Peter Leavitt. Through the years Eva worked as a photographer for Oxford Plains Speedway, at Pioneer Plastics in Auburn, hand sewing moccasins at home for piece work and driving school bus. She later worked serving the Town of Turner as a town clerk, treasurer, and town manager. She retired after serving 25 years for the Town of Turner. Eva also served as a Notary Public and Dedimus Justice, having married many couples. She was also an ordained minister and was very proud of the fact that she baptized her grandson. Eva was very community oriented and was a member of the Maine Municipal Association, North Turner Union Presbyterian Church, Turner Historical Society, Turner Bicentennial Committee, Bear Pond Book Club, and served as treasurer for Bear Pond Improvement Association and the North Turner Cemetery Association. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating at Bear Pond Park. Her hobbies included bell collecting, snowmobiling, and riding ATV’s. She enjoyed their camp at Grindstone, Maine, on the east branch of the Penobscot River, dining out, their home at Bear Pond and their annual 4th of July parties. They enjoyed traveling and took a month to travel across the United States. She is survived by her husband, Peter Leavitt of Turner, son, Roland “Ed” Morris, Jr. and wife Tracy of Turner, grandchildren, Elizabeth Young, Kyle Morris, Audrey Webber and Shelby Varney, five great-grandchildren, brothers, John Dudley and wife Margot of Hartford, Lawrence Giroux and wife Cynthia of Hartford, Edward Giroux and wife Deborah of Greene, Lorenzo Giroux and wife Patricia of Bridgton, and Troy Giroux and wife Rhonda of North Jay, sisters, Rosalie Caron and husband Richard of Leeds and Carmen Kiesman of North Turner, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, daughter, Dulsie Varney and son-in-law, Troy Varney, brothers, Robert Dudley and his wife, Dorothy, Paul Giroux and Tracey Giroux. Messages of condolences may be sent to: http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com.

Funeral services will be held at 4PM, Saturday, December 30, at FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. Visiting hours will be from 1-4 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
