Wet weather will continue in Maine through Thursday, before cooler temps arrive Friday and change the rain over to snow in parts of the state.

A system will bring steady rain for much of the day on Thursday. Temps will remain around 40 with the wet weather expected all day.

Showers will persist into Friday, and cooler air will be moving in throughout the day.

Rain will change over to snow from north to south, with mountain areas seeing the most wintry weather.

The mountains have the best chance of seeing accumulating snow with 1-3 inches expected there.

Towards the coast, inland areas will see a coating to an inch. Coastal snow accumulation is unlikely, but certainly possible if the changeover to snow happens more quickly.

The weather will become quiet Saturday afternoon, with clouds gradually clearing out by Saturday night.

New Year’s Day looks sunny and cool with highs near freezing, quiet weather will continue through at least Wednesday of next week.
