The Maine Nordiques started off the final series of 2023 with their eight straight victory — a 6-2 win in an NAHL East Division game against the Philadelphia Rebels at Hollydell Ice Arena in Gloucester County, New Jersey, Saturday night.

Jake Bernadet had a pair of goals for the Nordiques while Ryan Panico had a goal and two assists. Thomas Heaney made 32 saves.

Nick Bernardo started the scoring early in the first period for a 1-0 Maine lead before fellow defenseman Luke Chapelle stretched the lead six minutes into the game.

Brock Jones cut the deficit to 2-1 for the Rebels nearly 15 minutes into the contest.

Panico answered a minute later for the Nordiques, for a 3-1 lead, and 19 minutes in, Shane Kozlina gave Maine a 4-1 advantage.

After Kris Samitis notched a goal early in the second period for the Rebels, Bernadet scored twice in the middle frame for a 6-2 lead for Maine.

Jake Fialkoff and Jakub Krbecek combined to make 28 saves for the Rebels.

The teams meet again on Sunday at 3 p.m.
