AUBURN — A two-goal deficit proved too much to overcome for the Twin City Thunder in Thursday’s USPHL NCDC matchup against the South Shore Kings.

The Thunder fell behind by a pair twice, and could only rally halfway back in a 3-2 loss at Norway Savings Bank Arena.

The first period went scoreless, with the Kings (20-5-1-1, 42 points) holding an 11-10 edge in shots on goal.

The shot disparity showed on the scoreboard in the second period, with South Shore out-peppering the Thunder (6-15-2-0, 14 points) by a 12-6 margin and grabbing a 2-0 lead.

Karim Gayfullin and JJ Lemieux lit the lamp for the Kings in the middle frame, with Lemieux’s goal his first of the season.

John Clay Humphreys cut the deficit in half for the Thunder less than six minutes into the third period, Gayfullin scored again at the midway point of the frame to regain the two-goal lead at 3-1.
