JAY — Selectpersons accepted the high bid of $1,082.55 for a 2006 Ford Explorer from a Wilton man at Monday’s meeting.

Jerry Whitney’s offer was accepted. The only other was from Robert Elliston of Jay for $700. The board also included in its motion that if Whitney doesn’t want the vehicle Elliston will be contacted to see if he does.

The SUV was used by the Jay-Livermore Falls sewer superintendent. He bought a newer vehicle for about $14,000 that will be paid for by Jay and Livermore Falls based on sewage flow treated at the Livermore Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In other business, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere went over a proposed cost-sharing formula for the six-week Summer Recreation Program sponsored by Livermore Falls.

Representatives from Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls worked out the formula recently.

The cost is estimated at about $53,300, about $305 per child with other expenses related to the program, according to information from LaFreniere.

Participants receive breakfast and lunch through a federal grant that Regional School Unit 73 receives.

The formula has Jay and Livermore Falls paying 40%, or $19,2220 each; and Livermore paying 20%, or $9,610, based roughly on 175 participants.

Livermore voted Jan. 2 to put $5,000 in its budget to go to voters April 23. It will also go to the town’s budget committee. Jay and Livermore Falls will do the same.

If Jay and Livermore Falls pay the amount in the formula, the registration fee for the children in those towns would be $60 per child on top of what the towns pay. If either town does not pay that amount, parents would pay a higher registration fee.

As is with $5,000 budgeted, Livermore’s parents would pay $192 for each child. Livermore has never contributed from its budget for the program. Parents have paid a higher registration fee.

Jay contributes $13,000 for the program. Livermore Falls pays $12,000, but also takes care of the administrative part of the program.
