POLAND — State police arrested a Casco man after they tried to stop him from driving on the wrong side of Route 26 in Mechanic Falls during Tuesday’s snowstorm, according to officials.

Nathan Locke, 29, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, eluding, failure to stop, refusing to submit to arrest, reckless conduct and violating conditions of release. He was on five sets of bail conditions at the time of his arrest, officials said.

There were several near misses during the chase, including with Maine State Police Detective Jason Wing, who was driving his cruiser in the opposite direction, according to a state police statement.

Wing turned his cruiser around after nearly being struck and attempted to pull the car over. The driver continued on the wrong side of the road, nearly hitting more vehicles, driving between shoulders and driving over the median at one point before crashing his 2010 Chrysler Sebring into a pole near 600 Bakerstown Road in Poland.

Police said Locke resisted arrest and was uncooperative with Central Maine Medical Center staff, security and officers when brought to the Lewiston hospital for minor injuries.

Locke was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
