DEAR SUN SPOTS: My friend and I are having a hard time trying to find rides to medical appointments and the supermarket.

I used to call (Rural Community Action Ministry in Leeds) and they were great. My friend tells me they no longer give rides and she cannot find a company who does. She is about to give up driving but wants to hold on to her vehicle until she can establish rides. We live in Turner off Route 4. Buses and taxis are nonexistent in this area. Does anyone know who we can call for help? — Lizette, Turner

ANSWER: On the RCAM website, they still list giving rides to shop for groceries and go to medical appointments as part of their services so call them at 524-5095 on Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to get the scoop.

I’m also putting this out to Sun Spots Land to see if anyone knows of another solution for you. Some communities have volunteer organizations and/or senior centers that can help with this.

Some health insurances, such as Medicare Advantage, can help you find assistance. Call 211 and explain your situation. Another option is to contact SeniorsPlus in Lewiston (https://seniorsplus.org/). You can contact them through the website or call 1-800-427-1241.

Perhaps there’s a friendly Sun Spotter near you with the time and willingness to help. Let us know how it goes and if you need further assistance.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: When my husband and I came home after a shopping trip to Walmart in Auburn this past Monday, we noticed one grocery bag missing.

We immediately returned to Walmart and went to the service desk to see if someone saw the bag in the grocery cart outside and turned it in. Sure enough, there was the bag behind the desk. Thank you to the kind, honest person who brought it in. We sure do appreciate your thoughtfulness! — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: That is so nice. When you’re out and about, be mindful of how you can help people and just be kind. We all could use lots of TLC right now.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Before Christmas I thought I lost a favorite pair of burgundy leather gloves when I was doing errands. They must have fallen out of my pocket on my way in and out of the stores. I retraced my steps more than once and asked around but didn’t find them and gave up.

This week I returned to the walking path I use sometimes and there were my gloves in a plastic Ziploc bag with a note, tied with a festive ribbon, and hanging on a post. I realized I had lost the gloves on a different day than I had first thought!

I hope the person who went to the trouble to save my gloves sees this letter. I was so grateful to find my favorite gloves, given to me by my daughter. This act of kindness made my heart so glad and truly inspired me. — Judy, no town

ANSWER: Hooray! Thank you for sharing this. I wouldn’t be at all surprised that this lovely human is a Sun Spotter!
