LEWISTON — Two physicians from New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) will begin treating patients at the Cancer Care Center at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC), which is part of Central Maine Healthcare (CMH).

Late last year, Central Maine Healthcare entered into a strategic co-management agreement with NECS, a leading provider of oncology services in the Northeast, to enhance medical oncology and infusion services in the central Maine region.

One of the new providers is Julia Moukharskaya, MD, a hematologist and medical oncologist whose guiding philosophy is to provide patients with the highest quality of care possible.

‘While part of this goal can be achieved by offering the latest therapeutic and diagnostic advances, the other part depends on each individual patient. By providing patients with an active role in the decision-making process, we inform a partnership that provides them with the most effective, compassionate, and individualized care possible.’

Dr. Moukharskaya attended medical school at Belarusian State Medical University in Belarus. She completed her residency at East Tennessee State University, Quillen College of Medicine and Fellowship at the University of Vermont.

Daniel Rausch, MD, graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center. Dr. Rausch, a native of the Lewiston-Auburn community, was employed by CMMC between 2010-2022, providing cancer care services to patients.

‘The treatment of cancer is a complex and rapidly changing field, with new practice-changing information being released almost on a weekly basis. I enjoy approaching every new patient I see as a unique case with unique goals and treatment options.’

Additionally, Nicholette Erickson, MD, a leader in medical oncology with CMH for more than 30 years, has joined NECS as part of the agreement and will continue to see patients at Rumford Hospital, Bridgton Hospital, and the Cancer Care Center at CMMC, all of which are part of CMH.

The Cancer Care Center at CMMC is a state-of-the-art facility that opened its doors to patients in the spring of 2022, providing multi-specialty, team-based care in a centralized location. The facility features the newest linear accelerators for radiation therapy in Maine, beautiful infusion suites, onsite lab, clinical pharmacy, and convenient patient parking.

Under the co-management agreement, NECS will oversee operations and development of the Cancer Care Center’s hematology-oncology practice and oncology infusion centers at CMMC, as well as CMH’s two critical access hospitals, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital.
