DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Lewiston School Nutrition Program is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided at no charge to children attending school up to 18 years old. Meals are the same for all children who are attending summer programs at the end of the school year during summer months throughout the city of Lewiston.

If you are running a summer program in Lewiston that provides enrichment (educational activities) at a recreation center, playground, church youth group, park, daycare center, etc. for school-age children, you may be eligible.

For more information about qualifications for your summer organization or program to participate as a site, please call the Lewiston School Nutrition Program at 795-4106.

If your site is approved, all meals must be eaten at the approved site, as children are not allowed to remove food from the approved site location, such as schools, recreation centers, parks, playgrounds, day care centers, churches, etc. — Jeanie, no town

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m a young single mom and wanted to treat my little boy to breakfast out this past Sunday. He was very excited and brought his favorite toy truck with him.

When we got to the diner, it was packed and I hoped he would do a good job waiting. There were three parties in line ahead of us. When the next table was cleared though, the two women who were in line next smiled at me and told us to go ahead of them.

It’s the nicest thing anyone has done for us in a long time and I want to publicly thank them and let them know they made all the difference in what had been a very difficult week for me. Thank you for blessing me and my son with this act of kindness! — Amanda, Auburn
