DEAR SUN SPOTS: Years ago there was a gentleman who taught feng shui at Edward Little High School in Auburn. He was extremely professional and I would be sincerely appreciative if you could help me find him. If not, would you please recommend someone else? — Jeanne, Auburn

ANSWER: I’m putting your request out into Sun Spots Land and let’s see if anyone remembers the teacher you speak of, but it may be Werner Brandmaier, who is from Austria and is the founder of the Institute of Feng Shui & Geopathology in Portland.

Werner helps clients improve their lives through education, the neutralization of harmful earth energies, and the application of feng shui principles.

You can reach the institute at 772-7888 or email werner@instituteoffengshui.com.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear from other practitioners or get recommendations from our readers if they have experience working with feng shui.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I used to have a phone number to stop unwanted calls from coming in once and it really helped. I cannot find this number now and was wondering if you could get it for me. I’m 87 years old and really tired of getting calls to scam me. I was scammed once before and don’t want it to happen again. I really could use your help. Thank you for all you do. — No name, Lewiston

ANSWER: You can register your number on the national Do Not Call list at no cost by calling 1-888-382-1222. You must call from the phone number you wish to register.

Furthermore, if you allow these calls to go to voicemail rather than answering, all it does is show you have a working number. Try answering with silence. When you say hello, automated voice-activated calls launch the robocall recording. By saying nothing, these calls usually disconnect. If it’s a live caller, wait for that person to speak then hang up.

Smartphone users have plenty of app options that flag and block fraudulent calls. Some services are free; others cost just a few dollars per month.

Customers of AT&T can use Call Protect, Verizon Wireless provides Caller Name ID, Sprint offers Premium Caller ID, and T-Mobile has Scam ID and Scam Block. You can also get apps like RoboKiller to filter calls.

I think it still works with a landline to press *77 to block “anonymous” and “private” numbers then you can deactivate it anytime by pressing *87. Let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I would like to thank all the kind people who pay for my breakfast at The Square and Daddy O’s. It is greatly appreciated. I am thankful that at 94, I can still drive, go to church, and eat breakfast out every day when the weather is good. — No name, Norway

ANSWER: You are a wonder! I’m so glad you can be independent and out and about. It’s fantastic that folks are treating you to breakfast — you deserve all that and more. Be careful out there and have fun!
