WILTON — Police are looking for a man driving a burgundy 1980s Oldsmobile Cutlass with a black vinyl roof who reportedly impersonated a law enforcement officer Tuesday morning on state Route 133, Wilton Police Chief Ethan Kyes said Friday.
Farmington Police Chief Kenneth Charles said Thursday that the incident was reported to the Farmington Police Department by a third party. He said his department determined it occurred in Wilton and turned the investigation over to the Wilton Police Department on Thursday night.
According to a statement on the Wilton department’s Facebook page, the driver was reportedly wearing a vest over a new black uniform with no patches, badge, firearm or police gear, except a baton, when he pulled over a young male driver about 9:25 a.m. Tuesday near the Jay town line using police-style red and blue lights.
The driver became alarmed by the man’s demeanor and got out of his vehicle, leading to an altercation. The young driver escaped without injuries, according to police.
The driver of the Oldsmobile was described as a white male with thin build and about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, according to the Facebook post.
Kyes said Friday that police have not received any information or reports about similar incidents involving a similar vehicle.
