Charles V. Williams
BUCKFIELD – Charles V. Williams passed away on Feb. 9, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. At 87 years old, Charlie was the proud and cherished father of five children, grandfather to 19, and great grandfather to 38. His family was always the greatest blessing in his life, and he never neglected the chance to say, “I Love You More”. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A native of Minot, Maine, Charlie graduated from Edward Little High School in 1955. He joined the United States Army in 1957 and became the husband of his lifelong sweetheart of 62 years in 1958. Together, they traveled with their small children throughout the United States, and welcomed their third child while stationed in Augsburg, Germany. Charlie was honorably discharged after being awarded the Purple Heart in the name of the President during the Vietnam War. Charlie and Alice settled and raised their family in Buckfield where he remained a proud Veteran and member of the American Legion Post 58.
Charlie was a passionate and competitive sportsman. When he was not participating in an event, you could always find him coaching, umping, or cheering on his children and grandchildren. Loving life at 85 still included a daily round of golf with transportation to and from on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
As a beloved and honored community member, Charlie was recognized for his outstanding community service. In 1969, he was one of the Founding Fathers of Buckfield Recreation and in 2005 he was publicly honored for his vision, hard work and commitment to the children, town, and community. He owned Charlie’s Pizza for over a decade and although the food was exceptional, it was his company that kept the residents of Buckfield returning. He left a legacy of love and respect.
Charlie is survived by his children, Deborah and James Wetherell Sr., Charles Jr. and Rosalie Williams, DeeDee Williams, Alison and Jeffrey Newton Sr., Lori and Mark Thibodeau; sister Alice Mae Saucier, and brother-in-law James Young. He was predeceased by his wife, Alice B. Williams; son, Timothy Williams Sr.; grandson Charles E. Williams; brother William A. Williams, and many other siblings. Services will be held at Chandler Funeral Homes, 1037 Main Street, Oxford, Maine on Saturday, Feb. 17. Visiting hours will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and a Celebration of Life will immediately follow. Online condolences may be shared with the family and a Memorial Webcast will be available at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com.
Loving God, please grant those that love Charlie peace of mind and calm their troubled hearts. Let them know he has risen and is free of all earthly stressors. Comfort them in knowing that one day they will be reunited, just as the sun rises each day against the dark of night. Amen.
In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s family asks that donations be made in his memory to:
