Kevin Bean

LEWISTON — Kevin Bean is the Lewiston Recreation Department’s new community sports aide.

His responsibilities include maintaining working relationships with Lewiston organizations for the use of public facilities, overseeing athletic field rentals, maintaining a schedule for community games, practices and events, and developing and implementing community athletic programs for all ages.

Bean grew up in a small western Maine town that thrived on its ability to bring community together, especially through sports and recreation. He embraced his hometown’s passion as a member of the University of Maine’s football team and later at Central Maine Community College in Auburn, where he supported basketball and baseball teams to multiple conference championships and national tournament bids.

Bean aims to bring diverse court and field experiences as a player and as an assistant coach to his new role with the rec department, according to a news release from the city.

He is also finalizing the department’s newest volunteer program, Volunteer Forward, and welcomes volunteers interested in supporting recreational opportunities around the city. Ranging from coaching at a free soccer program to attending facility cleanups, the program offers a variety of ways for residents to give back to the community.

Those interested in helping with the program can email him at kbean@lewistonmaine.gov. There is no fee to apply, and the city conducts a background check on each applicant.
