After bursting onto the scene in his first collegiate season, Bates College men’s basketball freshman Marc Begin II has received multiple postseason honors for his exploits.

The Bobcats guard garnered accolades from both Bates’ conference and from the Maine coaches. He was named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year on Thursday, after finishing sixth in the conference in scoring, at 16.6 points per game. That mark also led the Bobcats.

Also Thursday, Begin was selected to the All-Rookie Team by the Maine Men’s Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.

Begin’s Bates teammate Simon McCormick and University of Maine at Farmington’s Jordan Anthony were both tabbed for the MMBCWA All-Defensive Team. McCormick collected 1.5 steals per game (his 36 steals on the season were fourth-most in the NESCAC), while Anthony compiled 33 steals and 29 blocks during the 2023-24 campaign.
