Runner-up was all right for Lewiston’s Isaiah Harris on Friday.

Harris finished second in his heat but had the second-fastest time among all five men’s 800-meter run heat races Friday at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. That result catapulted Harris into Saturday’s semifinal round, which is scheduled to start at 7:30 a.m.

Competing in the last of the five heat races, Harris completed the four laps in a season-best time of 1:46.12, just behind Spain’s Mariano Garcia’s winning time of 1:45.81. Those were the two fastest times, and Harris’ runner-up finish automatically qualified him into the semifinals. The top two finishers in each heat and the next two fastest runners among all five heats advanced to Saturday’s next round.

Harris’ American teammate, Bryce Hoppel, was the third-fastest runner overall, winning heat No. 2 in a time of 1:46.15.

Harris has been slotted into Saturday’s first semifinal race, along with Garcia, while Hoppel will compete in the second semifinal. The top three finishers in each semifinal advance to Sunday afternoon’s championship final.
