PERU – Freda S. Russell, 95, died Wednesday March 6, 2024, at the Hospice House in Auburn. She resided at Worthley Pond in the summer and Apollo, Florida, in the winter.

Freda was born in Peru, Maine, on Feb. 28, 1929, and was a daughter of Thomas and Hildreth (Robinson) Saunders. She worked in the lab at the Rumford Hospital. She enjoyed watching western movies, dancing, reading, and was also a seamstress. She was a lifetime member of the Snowshoe Club in Rumford. She and her husband Wendall wintered in Apollo, Fla., for 23 years.

Freda was married in Mexico, Maine, on Aug. 29, 1987, to Alfred Wendall Russell who survives of Peru and Florida. Other survivors include her sons, Gary Hemingway and wife Donna of Canton and Randy Hemingway and wife Theresa of Mexico, stepchildren, Selena MacDonald and husband Rodney of Portsmouth, Allan W. Russell of Rumford, Eric A. Russell and wife Kimberly of Rumford, daughter-in-law Yvonne Hemingway of Canton, grandchildren Ryan Hemingway, Jessica Hemingway and companion Levi, Rodney Hemingway and wife Ashley, Richard Hemingway and wife Kelly, Jason Herger, Ashley Russell, Madison Russell, and Kevin Russell and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Androscoggin Home Health Care and Hospice and the Hospice House in Auburn for their care and kindness.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday March 14, 2024, at the Meader & Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St., Rumford. Interment in the spring will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Dixfield. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home 12 – 2 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
