LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Nordic skiers with area ties competed on the opening day of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s Junior National Championships on Monday.
Orrin Slover, who competes for Quarry Road Ski Club, had the highest finish among area athletes in the individual start freestyle races. The Edward Little High School sophomore placed 24th in the men’s 16U race, finishing with a time of 15 minutes, 3.3 seconds.
Former Spruce Mountain High School skier Abrahm Geissinger, who now skis for Green Mountain Valley School, took 35th in the men’s 18U race, finishing in 21:46.8. Ellis Slover, who attended Edward Little before transferring to Gould Academy, placed 88th (23:38.7).
Another Gould skier, Nyla Scott of Greenwood, finished 35th in the women’s 18U race (26:19.8).
Junior Nationals competition continues Wednesday with the classic sprint races, followed by classic mass start races Friday and the freestyle relays on Saturday.
