READFIELD – Hollis Bennett, 74, of Readfield, passed away peacefully on Feb. 28, 2024, at Central Maine Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Rumford to Elijah “Ozzie” and Alice Bennett. Hollis graduated from Mexico High School in 1968 and served four years in the Navy. In 1979 he married Deena Bennett (Poirier) in Woolwich and worked as a pipe fitter at Bath Iron Works for nearly 40 years, retiring in 2014. Hollis lived by the term “Be Kind” and did his best to teach others to do the same. He loved playing cribbage and going camping and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix.
Hollis was predeceased by his father and mother, Elijah and Alice Bennett, older brother and sister, Lee Bennett and Linda Lee.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deena, sons Stan Bennett and his wife Alison in Norway, Maine, Scott Bennett and his wife Joyce in Thomasville, North Carolina, his brother Gary and his wife Erin of Salem, New Hampshire, six grandsons, Zachary Donahue, Dustin Donahue, Andrew Bennett, Jacob Bennett, Colby Bennett and Logan Bennett, one great-grandson and three great granddaughters. Services to be held at 9 a.m., on May 31, at the VA National Cemetery in Augusta. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.funeralalternatives.net.
