R. Marcel Goulet

LEWISTON – R. Marcel Goulet, Marcel to all who knew him, passed away March 7, 2024. He died at home after a short illness surrounded by the love and support of his family.

The same love and support he taught by example throughout his life. Marcel was born March 31, 1938, in Lewiston and was a lifelong resident of the city.

Marcel was the eldest of six children born to Laurier and Francese Goulet. He grew up leading his sisters and brothers in many shenanigans and they created a lifelong sibling bond.

Marcel attended school at St. Peter’s elementary school, and St. Dominic’s Regional High School. Upon graduation he served honorably as a United States Marine. Later in life he completed a BBA degree at the University of Maine attending school part-time in the evenings while managing a business and raising a family. He was co-owner of Reliable Aluminum for many years with his father, Larry. He ultimately sold the business and then worked for years as a salesman for Applicator Sales and Fairbanks Roofing and Siding until his retirement. He had a strong work ethic and took pride in a hard day’s work. Whether working on a roof or installing siding and roofing in his early days, to his success as a top-rated salesperson, he found value in the reward of earning one’s way in life.

With Claudette Beaudette, he had and raised four children, Marc, Scott, Rachel, and Michele. Marcel later married Jackie Dumond and they shared over 40 years of adventures. Marcel became a father to Jackie’s children, Todd, and Lori. He would and did move mountains for his family.

Marcel was a hard worker, but also managed to spend many days of his life on the golf course. He was particularly fond of Fairlawn Golf and Country Club in Poland, Maine and was a club member for many years. Another favorite relaxation of Marcel’s were annual visits to Aruba with Jackie, and sometimes with one, two, or all his children and their families. Marcel very much looked forward to these trips as a relief from the Maine winter and to spend time with many friends that he made through the years. He was an avid reader, history buff and champion cribbage player.

Marcel was a loving husband and father, and always available to offer advice and support in times of need, large or small. He taught all his children the value of hard work, but also how to have fun. Watching him on the dance floor, especially, would bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Marcel was cherished by Jackie and all his children. There is heartbreak in the loss of a husband and father like Marcel, but his love, wisdom and lessons were deep and we are so very grateful he was ours.

Marcel is survived by his wife, Jackie, his son, Marc (Sarah) Goulet, his daughters, Rachel (Pete) LeBel and Michele (Gordon) Goulet-Holman, his stepdaughter, Lori (Clay) Phillips, his stepson, Todd (Cindy) Poulin, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Siblings, Claudette Nelson, Richard (Anita) Goulet, Paul (Peggy) Goulet, Claire (Chris) Goulet, and his brother-in-law John Konicki. He was predeceased by his sister JoAn and son, Scott. He missed Scott so much and they can now play a round of golf and a cribbage match together.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 4, from 1-4 p.m., at The Fortin Group, 217 Turner St., Auburn.

Arrangements are under the care of The Fortin Group Funeral Home, 217 Turner Street Auburn, ME 04210, (207) 783-8545.
