LEMONT FURNACE, PA. — Olivia Gallan scored the winning run on a wild pitch, and the Central Maine Community College softball team salvaged a doubleheader split with a 4-3 victory over Penn State Fayette on Thursday.

With the game tied 3-3, Gallan, a former Oxford Hills standout, singled with two outs in the top of the seventh. She stole second base and later moved to third on a wild pitch. Leavitt graduate Sam Withee drew a walk on a wild pitch, and Gallan sprinted home for the go-ahead run.

Mustangs (5-12) relief pitcher Brooke Gero allowed a hit in the bottom of the seventh but shut down the Nittany Lions to seal CMCC’s fifth win of the season.

Winthrop grad Lauryn Wood started for the Mustangs and struck out seven batters while allowing five hits and one earned run.

CMCC’s Allee Wellman tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth with a double that brought home Miah Gallan, another Oxford Hills grad.

The Mustangs took a 2-0 lead when Olivia Scott scored on Emily Libby’s second-inning single, and Leavitt grad Logan Arsenault drove in Olivia Gallan in the third inning. Olivia Gallan led CMCC with two hits, while Olivia Scott hit a triple and Wellman had a double.

Sophia Zalar had two hits for Penn State Fayette (3-3) in the second game.

In the opener, Daelin Burnsworth drove in three runs to lead the Nittany Lions to a 4-1 win.

Two runs scored on Burnsworth’s fourth-inning single, which gave Penn State Fayette a 2-1 lead. She brought home the team’s third run with sacrifice ground out in the sixth.

Olivia Gallan doubled and scored Central Maine’s only run on Withee’s first-inning single. Miah Gallan led the Mustangs with two hits.

UMF 4, CLARKS SUMMIT 2: Melissa Mayo homered and in their first game of the day, the Beavers (5-0) took down the Defenders (3-4-1) in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Maddie Pike added a triple for UMaine-Farmington and tied Grace Pratt and Abby Wrinn tied for the team lead with two hits apiece. Pike and Pratt also drove in runs.

Mack Bergen struck out seven batters in 5 1/3 innings to earn the win for UMF, and Carleigh Schievink notched the save with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in the circle.

Davi Ort doubled and had two hits, and Maddison Atkins also had two hits for Clarks Summit.

BREVARD 9, UMF 7: The Beavers’ (5-1) rally fell short and they suffered their first loss of the season to the Tornados (6-9) in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

UMaine-Farmington trailed 9-3 after the fifth inning of its second game of the day. The Beavers scored three runs in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Stephanie Morse, Abby Wrinn and Jojo Daigneault to cut their deficit to 9-6.

UMF added another run in the seventh. With two outs, Reilly Russell struck out, but due to a passed ball she was able to reach first safely and Emily Collins was able to score from first base. But the rally ended when the next batter, Melissa Mayo, grounded out.

Maddie Pike led the Beavers with three hits, giving her five in UMF’s two games Thursday. Daigneault doubled and had two hits, and Oxford Hills graduate Christa Allen also had a pair of hits.

Brevard leadoff hitter Karley Queen and Gabby Hooper each doubled and had two hits. Hooper also scored three runs.

COLLEGE BASEBALL
PSU DUBOIS 12, CMCC 11: The Nittany Lions (6-4) plated seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to rally and beat the Mustangs (10-7-1) in walk-off fashion in DuBois, Pennsylvania.

Central Maine Community College led 11-5 heading into the final half inning. A two-run triple by Brandon Sicheri and a three-run double by Jake Sikora got Penn State DuBois within one run, 11-10. The tying run was scored by Braylen Corter on a fielder’s choice, then Brett Beith singled home Alex Gavlock for the winning run.

Beith finished with four RBIs, and Sikora drove in three runs for the Nittany Lions.

Former Edward Little standout Brady Vincent hit one of CMCC’s three home runs, a two-run shot in the sixth that put the Mustangs ahead 11-5. Lee Robertson and Gage Hubbard also homered for Central Maine.

Trevor Phelps, a Mt. Abram graduate, had two doubles and led the Mustangs with three hits. Garren Post also hit a pair of doubles.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
REGIS 16, UMF 3: Hope Alto scored four goals and Kylee Marley added three as the Pride (3-1) routed the Beavers (2-2) in Weston, Massachusetts.

Ruby McMinis, Abby Trefsger and Emilie Crocker each scored a goal for UMaine-Farmington.
