UMF’S MARQUIS HONORED: University of Maine at Farmington freshman Matt Marquis was named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday.

The Monmouth Academy graduate went 5 for 12 from the leadoff spot for the Beavers, racking up six runs, two RBIs and a double. He also stole a base, and in the field made three putouts while not committing an error.

BATES 7, CARLETON 1: The Bobcats (7-3) opened the Tucson Invitational with a victory over the Knights (1-5) in Tucson, Arizona.

Luke Linehan pitched a gem for Bates, holding Carleton to one hit and not allowing a run in seven innings.

Third baseman Chris Cimino tripled and drove in a pair of runs for the Bobcats. Brandon Biggane also tripled. Noah Jankowski tallied a team-best three hits, while Cimino, Jack Brennan and Ben Genser finished with two apiece.

BATES PICKS UP FIRST TWO WINS: A day after dropping their first two games of the season, the Bobcats won a pair of games in Clermont, Florida.

Bates (2-2) rallied to win 3-2 against St. Lawrence, then shut out Washington & Jefferson 4-0.

Isabel Bettencourt’s two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning brought the Bobcats back from a 2-1 deficit in the first game. Zariya Anderson’s solo homer in the bottom of the second tied the game 1-1. Anderson collected two of Bates’ five hits.

Isabella Albro pitched a complete game for the Bobcats, scattering six hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Bates’ Delaney Rankin helped out in both areas of the second game, tossing seven shutout innings in the circle and hitting a double at the plate. Rankin gave up three hits and two walks while picking up four strikeouts.

Kennedy Jones had two run-scoring hits, including a first-inning homer and a sixth-inning RBI single. Maya Lee also had two hits in the win.

UMF’S DAIGNEAULT RECOGNIZED: UMaine-Farmington’s Jojo Daigneault received co-Rookie of the Week honors from the North Atlantic Conference on Monday.

The first-year outfielder played in all eight games for the Beavers last week, hitting safely in the first seven and collecting one of her seven RBIs while going hitless in the eighth game. She totaled 13 hits while batting .481, scoring nine runs and stealing four bases.
