REGION — Maine Maple Sunday is fast approaching, and several local producers are opening up their shacks and sugar houses to let members of their community visit and learn more about what goes into maple syrup as well as dig in on maple flavored delights.

According to The Maine Maple Producers Association, the 41st annual Maine Maple Sunday weekend will be happening on the fourth weekend of March, which will be Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24.

“Most sugarhouses offer maple syrup samples and demonstrations on how pure Maine maple syrup is made,” The Maine Maple Producers Association states on its website. “Many farms offer games, activities, treats, sugarbush tours, music, and so much more.”

In Jay, Plaisted Farm Maple Products will be open on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and they are located at 132 Borough Road.

They will be hosting boiling demonstrations and more at their family sap house. They promise pure Maine maple syrup as well as maple sugar and maple cream while supplies last.

In Dixfield, the Hall Farms Maple Products will be open on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and they are located at 8 Science Hill Road. Boiling will start around 9 a.m., with breakfast being served from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and that will include pancakes served with blueberries, sausage and baked beans. Starting at 11 a.m., Pine View Farm will fire up the grill and start serving hamburgers and cheeseburgers until 2 p.m.

Hall Farms will also be open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and they will offer coffee and homemade donuts along with their other products, such as maple cream, maple butter, maple hard and soft candies, maple cheese, and a variety of sauces.

Over in Chesterville, JB Farms will be open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and they are located at 140 Stinchfield Road. They will be showcasing their newly renovated sap house and will be offering pulled pork lunch for $15 each, which can be enjoyed in their new seating area.

JB Farms will also be offering horse drawn wagon rides, a beekeeping demonstration and a blacksmith demonstration along with their many maple products.

Over in Wilton, Long Drive Acres Maple Farm will be open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will be offering wagon rides and a tour of their sap house, as well as samples of their maple products, which will be on hand to purchase.
