DEAR SUN SPOTS: My husband has misplaced the information you printed to have taxes done by AARP at the Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Would you please be so kind to run it one more time? — Barbara, Minot

ANSWER: I received a note from one of the organizers of that service a few weeks ago stating that all the appointments are filled. You may want to check in with another entity, CA$H Maine, at 739-6530 or sign in online at https://www.cashmaine.org/ and type in your ZIP code. That way you can see if any appointments are left in Lewiston or South Paris, and if you financially qualify for the free service. I do want to warn you that these appointments might be filled as well, and that these are “Scan and Go” appointments only.

Farmington has two locations as well. Call 778-5048 if you want to go out that way.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a piano to give away. It is in very good condition but needs tuning. Just come pick it up. My phone number is 743-6919. — Mary, Paris

ANSWER: Perhaps a nonprofit, church, or children’s center could use this. Let us know what happens.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you have a list of reliable people who will do yard cleanup work? I’ll pay them, of course. I’m 90 years old and can’t do this work myself. Family members are willing to do it, but they all live out of town and it would be hard to get them here all at the same time. I can furnish all the bags.

I really appreciate all you do for people, you’re always so helpful. — Irene, Auburn

ANSWER: I can direct you to a couple landscaping companies that do cleanup but you may also want to ask your family members to help you line someone up. Especially because you are a senior, you want to be very discerning about who you have on your property. You’ll also want to consider having someone who is bonded and insured.

In the Rolodex, I have Carrier Lawn & Landscaping in Greene (577-8756), Canyon Spring Landscaping in Lewiston (576-2155), and Maine Seasons Property Management (522-4136).

If anyone has another business to recommend, please do!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have some furniture to be donated to needy families. Can you give me a list of the agencies arranging homes for the immigrants/homeless? — Linda, no town

ANSWER: There are several agencies that can help, depending on what you have to donate. Loaves and Fishes/Hidden Treasures at 850 Lisbon St. in Lewiston is a good resource (https://loavesandfisheshiddentreasures.org/, 375-8399), and may be able to pick up the items they need. You may also want to contact Furniture Friends (https://furniturefriends.org/, 210-5797) and Maine Needs https://www.maineneeds.org/).

Remember, these organizations have to be choosy about what they are giving to their clients so only quality, clean, smoke-free items are taken.

Readers, if you know of other organizations that are getting furniture and household items directly to immigrants and the homeless, please write in.
