DURHAM — Fire crews from several towns battled a wildfire Friday afternoon that ripped across a field in the area of Pinkham Brook Road.

Crews were called out shortly after 1 p.m. for reports of a large brush fire near the 300 block of Pinkham Brook Road. The Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office immediately put out a request for aid, drawing firefighters from departments in Durham, Brunswick, Lisbon and Freeport.

The Durham fire chief arrived at the scene and reported that between one and two acres were burning and moving toward a nearby wooded area.

Firefighters battled the blaze for hours and ultimately stopped the flames from reaching the woods. In the end, it was estimated that two acres had burned.

No injuries were reported.
