GREENSBORO, N.C. — Bates College senior Mark Gregory achieved a 12th-place finish in the men’s 1,650-yard freestyle on the final day of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday.

Gregory finished the men’s 1,650 in 16 minutes, 8.29 seconds. Bates’ Stephanie Tropper placed 24th in the women’s 1,650.

The Bobcats’ men’s 400-yard relay team — John Weigel, Maximillian Cory, Timothy Johnson and Nathaniel Pierce — placed 19th. In the same event the Bates women — Grace Wenger, Tropper, Marjorie McLeod and Natalie Young — placed 23rd.

Cory finished 21st in the men’s 100 freestyle, and Wegner took 27th in the women’s race.

Sophie Cassily and Natalie Young both competed for Bates in the women’s 200 backstroke, with Cassily placing 25th and Young 29th. Johnson matched Cassily with a 25th-place showing in the men’s 200 back.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke, Bobcats freshman Sarah Palmer swam to a 26th-place finish.

The Bobcats conclude the NCAA championships having earned All-American honors in 11 events.

The Bates women finished 18th with 47 team points, while the men were 34th with 15 points.

MEN’S LACROSSE
WESLEYAN 22, BATES 11: The Cardinals outshot the Bobcats 64-31 and scored twice as many goals to earn a NESCAC victory in Middletown, Connecticut.

Wesleyan ended the first quarter leading 6-4 and kept that pace the remainder of the game, scoring more goals than Bates in every quarter.

Connor Hartman scored three goals for Bates (3-5, 0-4), while Riley McClure and TJ Underhill each scored two. Bates goalie Andrew Toland made a game-high 13 saves

Wesleyan’s (6-1, 3-0) leading scorer was Ben Burns, who finished with five goals.

BASEBALL
REDLANDS 12, BATES 4: The Bobcats led for the first three innings, but a nine-run fourth propelled the Bulldogs to victory in Tuscon, Arizona.

Jack Brennan scored the first Bates (8-5) run in the first inning off a double from Brandon Biggane. Biggane then singled in the third inning, for a run batted in while Gibby Sullivan scored a second unearned run to bring the score to 0-3 at the top of the fourth inning.

Henry Prince homered for the final Bobcats run in the fourth inning, before Redlands (12-11) added nine runs.

Jack Potash pitched 4.1 innings for Bates and Sam Hough pitched 3.2. For Redlands, Jakob Russell was the winning pitcher and pitched for five innings.
