LEWISTON — Bates College put Husson away early to earn a 22-2 victory in an in-state women’s lacrosse matchup at Garcelon Field on Tuesday.

After Raveis’ goals, Bates (4-4) scored 10 more in the first period, after which they led 13-1, and added four in the second and another in the third before Sophia Gomez ended the Eagles’ (1-5) drought with a goal about six minutes into the second half.

The Bates (8-5) baseball team’s Luke Linnehan was named Maine Pitcher of the Week and freshman Henry Prince was chosen as the Maine Rookie of the Week.

Linnehan, a senior, limited Carleton College to one hit over seven innings and earned the win in the Bobcats’ 7-1 victory in Arizona last Monday. He struck out three and walked only two batters.

Prince went 4-for-9 at the plate, including a home run, a triple and a double. He also drove in five runs. The infielder’s first college hit was a pitch-hit, two-run triple against Wesleyan last Tuesday. His first home run came Friday against the University of Redlands.

For the Bates softball team, sophomore Delaney Rankin was selected as the Maine Pitcher of the Week and freshman Zariya Anderson is the Maine Rookie of the Week.

Rankin finished the Bobcats’ (2-7) Florida trip with a 2.62 ERA in five starts. She pitched a complete-game shutout against Washington & Jefferson and struck out eight in six innings while not allowing an earned run in Bates’ 2-1 loss to Smith.

Anderson, a catcher, hit the first home run of her college career against St. Lawrence last Monday. She recorded a .450 batting average (9 for 20) over the final seven games of Bates’ season-opening Florida trip. For the week, she he .385 and scored four runs.

The Maine College Baseball & Softball Association is in its first year, and Linnehan, Prince, Rankin and Anderson are the first Bates baseball and softball players to receive recognition from the association.
